Kara Branch is a chemical engineer and the founder and CEO of Black Girls Do Engineer, a workforce development organization training K-12 girls from underserved communities for careers in STEM. With less than 3% of Black women represented in engineering, her mission is to change that statistic for good.
Since launching in 2019, Black Girls Do Engineer has served over 6,500 girls through workshops and in-person trainings, achieving a 100% college success rate and job placement rate among program participants. Now, with support from AWS Social Impact Credits and the AWS grant program, the organization is building STEM Access, an EdTech product designed to bring virtual STEM education directly into the homes of the girls they serve.
In this video, Kara shares how AWS has supported her team from day one, from cloud credits that power their learning management system, to the momentum and expertise that come with having the world's leading cloud provider behind their mission. She discusses scaling from a one-person technical team with interns to a national audience, and what it means to ensure Black girls and underserved communities are not left behind as the workforce evolves.
